Detailed Description:

This triangular shaped tract of land has paved road access, thick wooded areas, and great hunting. Through consistent feed and selective harvesting over the last four years, the current owner been able to mount some impressive bucks here. Whitetails in this part of Wilbarger County can grow into the 160-170″ class range in low fence environments, with just native browse and farm fields (alfalfa, wheat, cotton) for nutrition. Check out Wilbarger County’s Chamber of Commerce to verify this – in 2008 a massive 210″+ native whitetail was found on the side of the road one morning, having been struck by a car just a few miles west of this property. It was donated to the Chamber and is mounted there today.

There is also year around hunting for feral hog and predators, such as coyotes and bobcats, plus migratory dove in the fall. The 23 acre wheat field along the highway works great as a food plot for deer hunting, but could also be developed with milo or sunflowers for bird hunting. A local farmer is currently leasing the farm field to grow winter wheat. Other recreational activities include four-wheeling, camping out, and enjoying the peace and quiet of the outdoors.

Most of the ranch has mesquite cover across it, with the occasional hackberry tree in the pasture. A large wash running through the middle of it keeps good undergrowth established. This wash also feeds a huge water tank on the east end. This tank is every bit 20′ deep and at full capacity will have over a half acre of surface water. Salt Creek, a seasonal creek, also runs through the middle of the ranch for a half a mile, providing additional surface water for wildlife.

At the back corner of the property the owner has built a small hunter’s cabin, with metal roof and covered porch. It does not have electricity or water ran to it, but has a water system set up to bring in. The cabin has a loft sleeping area. Next to the cabin is an old barn that is falling down, and a good set of pipe corrals. The land has easy access off of Highway 283, a two lane road, and is only five minutes to the town of Vernon, where there is a feed store, Walmart, and several restaurants.
