The Winding Creek Ranch is bordered on the south by a Rio Grande turkey reserve, and turkeys routinely take cover in the shade of the tree groves along the ranch's south border. Other wildlife present on the property include wild hog and bobwhite quail.

Improvements consist of excellent perimeter fences and 1/2 mile of public road frontage on the north border. There are two new gated entrances at this road, which is the only way to access the ranch. Electricity is available at the road too. The CRP contract, which expires in 2009, pays nearly $3200/yr.
