Detailed Description:

Located in the northern mountains of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, the Maynard Ranch represents one of the most exclusive ranch offerings in New Mexico. The spectacular 1,756+/- deeded acres is one of the largest contiguous blocks of deeded land under one ownership in the White Mountain and Mogollon Mountain geographic area. This ranch lies in the heart of some of the most sought after elk hunting in the world. The Boone and Crockett world record Typical Elk was taken within thirty miles of the ranch, and giant bulls are abundant in the area. Since the ranch is in New Mexico, it receives Landowner Elk Tags from the New Mexico Game and Fish Department, so no need to wait in line to get a tag in Arizona. In addition to the deeded land, there are 1,120+/- acres of BLM grazing allotment attached to the ranch.

The property is situated about 15 miles south of US Highway 60 via Forest Road 19. Luna, New Mexico is just about ten miles further south on FR 19 and the Arizona State line is approximately eight miles west. Shopping is just a thirty minute drive to Springerville, AZ and skiing is less than one hour away at Sunrise Ski Resort.

WILDLIFE AND HUNTING: Elk, Mule Deer, Pronghorn Antelope and Merriam Turkey are just some of the wildlife you can expect to see on the property. Black Bear travel here in the fall to take advantage of the acorns from the oak trees. Many other species too numerous to name thrive on and around the ranch. The ranch is located in Big Game Unit 15 and receives 3 Mature Bull, 3 Either Sex and 3 Antler less Elk tags.

TERRAIN: The highly diversified terrain on the ranch ranges from nearly flat, sub-irrigated pasture land surrounded by pine clad cliffs to canyons and breaks dotted with oak forests and rolling Pinon and juniper covered hills. This diversity not only creates a phenomenal landscape, but provides a pristine environment for both livestock and wildlife.

WATER: In addition to excellent terrain, the ranch is blessed with shallow and abundant water. There are four productive wells on the ranch, three of which are less than 150 ft. deep coupled with numerous pit tanks and earthen dams that take advantage of the abundant natural moisture, whether from shallow underground sources, monsoon rains or winter snow.

IMPROVEMENTS AND UTILITIES: The headquarters is nestled at the base of the pine clad mountains of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest which provides an almost endless back yard of riding, hunting and hiking pleasure. The ranch is off the grid and power is provided by solar panels. A monitoring system will automatically start a diesel generator in the event the solar power becomes weak.

HOME: Currently, the ranch is being operated as a guest, hunting and cattle ranch. Improvements are tastefully unique and will accommodate numerous guests. The main home boasts six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a large dining and living area with rock fireplace. A cozy country kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances ready to feed a crowd. The home also features wood and tile floors throughout and displays thoughtful planning not only in the general floor plan, but in the handicap accessible main level.

A bunkhouse with a common bathroom and laundry facility is tucked away on a knoll in the pines. A covered porch runs the length of the bunkhouse and provides ultimate relaxation with exquisite views. Each bunk room has a loft and is large enough to accommodate from four to six people

History has been carefully considered on the ranch. The log cabin was built around 1880 and was one of the original structures on the ranch. Utmost consideration has been taken in an effort to maintain its rustic, old west ambiance, yet it accommodates guests nicely. There is a second original log cabin approximately one mile from the main headquarters and dates around 1910. This cabin is in excellent condition, but hasn’t been updated and presents an excellent opportunity to restore its originality.

The rustic 80 X 100 ft. barn is yet another example of the old west functionality found on the ranch. It is currently being used to store feed, wagons and heavy equipment out of the weather.

Stalls also provide a warm, dry place for horses. A set of wooden corrals are used for working livestock and are equipped with a new set of livestock scales and loading chute. You will definitely feel as if you’ve stepped back in time while walking through the ranch headquarters but be assured that all of the modern necessities are discretely tucked away for your convenience
